In the setting of the 2013 Festival of Europe the University area is organising a series of activities whose common leading thread is the contribution which the University, in its multiple characterisations, can offer promoting the European citizenship, participation and democracy. It is a matter of some conventions, seminars, debates and an opening lecture, Lectio Magistralis, on some crucial themes for a fuller and fuller realisation of the European structure: foreign policy challenges, the Euro and inter-cultural contrast. Alongside of these initiatives the University is also participating in the Festival with a theatrical representation, an exhibition and initiatives presenting innovative projects. In fact, lecturers and structures involved fall under different disciplinary sectors, all being involved in Jean Monnet European University centre, as in the case of the Florentine University which was recognised in 1999.
